Sales and Service Outreach Application
The Clinical Laboratory Unit’s (CLU) Outreach section at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi (AKUH, K) has sales staff spread across the country, which carries out multiple activities on a daily basis, including responding to customers, preparing reports, crafting sales pitches, tracking the coordinator’s activities, managing customers and handling support requests. Due to competing deadlines, prioritizing and managing tasks is challenging for the team.
In collaboration with AKUH, K, AKDN dHRC designed and developed the Sales and Service Outreach mobile application to enable sales staff to conveniently manage their workload and report progress. The application is Android based-tablet application with a web portal, allowing outreach sales staff to manage day-to-day activities, track and report trips. Supervisors, through the app, are able to digitally manage all tasks performed by the sales team, including meeting requests, training information, time traveled, etc. in real-time. For each of the coordinators, who monitor multiple clusters in the nine regions of Pakistan, the application helps keep track of the administrative, sales and marketing tasks; maintain records of Continuing Medical Education (CME); and record daily travel journeys.
An innovative feature of application is that the sales personnel can operate the application offline, eliminating dependency on internet connectivity. Once internet connectivity is available, the data is transferred to the server for the supervisor to monitor. This feature helps sales personnel access and store the information of tasks performed during site visits, which often times have limited or no internet connectivity.
For each of the coordinators, monitoring multiple clusters in the nine regions of Pakistan, the application helps keep track of the administrative, sales and marketing tasks; maintain records of Continuing Medical Education (CME); and record daily travel journeys. On availability of internet connectivity, data is synchronized with the web portal, enabling managers to approve and monitor coordinator’s activities and reimbursements for travel are made.
The Outreach and Sales application, available on the Google Play Store, is aimed to optimize field efficiency through real-time performance reports, reducing human error with the help of digital record keeping mechanisms, improving customer relationships and expanding operations with regular feasibility reports.
The application was successfully launched in October 2019.
